Convict X
Convict X, may not have graduated from Primary School yet but already have a diploma in the school of rock as the pint sized rockers continue to notch up experience well beyond their years.
Taking out first prize in the lower school age (14 and under) category of WAM’s Song of The Year 2009, the young year 6/7 Forrestdale Primary School students were stoked to have won against much older high school students for best original song.
Convict X write and perform their own catchy original rock songs complete with three way harmonies about everyday life as seen thru the eyes of 10 – 12 yr old boys, who basically just want to have fun
Their WAM SOTY winning song “Everything”, is an observation about young boys wanting everything from Playstation consoles to motorbikes... and wanting it now, while their latest song “Rocking in the shed” is all about preferring to play music in their rehearsal room – which is a fully decked out shed, than going to bed when told.
The three guitarists/vocalists/songwriters, Nicholas (12), Hayden (11) and Jarred (10) who all met at Forrestdale Primary School (some five years ago) started off performing AC/DC songs at the school’s talent shows and soon progressed to performing them live supporting HELLS BELLS to large appreciative audiences.
The lack of a bassist is overcome by the multi instrumental skills of ea member. They all take turns at playing bass including new drummer Joel Berville (11) who was introduced to the band as a friend of Nicholas Cullen-Lucas just at the time original drummer Nick Osborne was entering high school.
Veterans at recording, the three guitarists of Convict X have been recording their own songs for 2 years some of which can be heard at their website www.myspace.com/convictxxx, including a brand new song recorded in January as part of their WAM SOTY prize.
