"Mother Griffin are at times wispy, dreamy and delicate, at others dark, dense, unleashing fierce lightning storms. Sultry ballads such as ‘Boulevard’ drift across your mind like a beautiful stranger ambling past the frosted-up windows of a downtown bar, before the wrath of a pounding rocker like ‘Desert,’ a grinding meditation on a powerhouse riff, strikes you down. There’s a focus on groove, chemistry, musicianship and soul that tends to belong to bygone days, but nevertheless sounds timeless; a curious meld of raucous instrumental stylings and the jazzy croon of Mei Lim results in some kind of real-life daydream in which a Motown diva is jamming with Led Zeppelin in a tin shed in the Nullabor decorated with Christmas lights, or something. Whatever it is, you should go and see and hear it."
